My Aunt Joanne

"She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the Universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings." When I saw this quote, the first person who came to my mind was Joanne, however I do have the pleasure of referring to this phenomenal woman as my aunt.

Here's to those who inspire and don't even know it. this is a long overdue thank you because you have impacted my life in ways I can't begin to fathom. I'm grateful for the lessons you have taught me, the different paths that you have shown me, the guidance you have given through the most difficult times in my life and you certainly made an irrevocable impact on who I am.

When I was an unlovable monster you showed me love. When I was a confused student you showed me guidance. When I was an exasperated teenager you showed me patience. That is what is so amazing about you - that in this crazy life my soul got so tangled up with yours that you became a role model, a mentor, a lesson, a love, a friend and an amazing aunt.

Auntie Joanne has never lead me down a wrong path, she may not be perfect, no one is but she showed me how to love and what it meant to be called "princess' from the minute I was born up to this day. I am a product of her Christian life. I wake up on morning saying a prayer to the Highest because I remember the many times she reinforced the importance of saying a simple morning prayer.

When I had doubts in my life, she led me to the Holy Bible and explained to me how easy it was to have a conversation with God. "I serve a true and living God" is what she often says, and I too believe this because I've seen miraculous things happen in my Aunt's life. I aspire to be as spiritual as she and I too would love to be known as the God-fearing woman that she is profoundly known. She is a grounded woman who knows what she wants and generates positivity wherever she has planted herself. So, I say all of this to say, I love you and keep impacting the lives of young seeds like myself so that one day we may grow into trees of wisdom and strength in God.

Joanne Haynes
Who Impacts Change Where it Matters Most!

I have known Joanne for over a decade, when her family took me into their home so I could attend college. From the first day living with the Haynes family, Joanne has treated me as her little sister. Over the years our relationship had grown beyond that of sisters to that of close-nit, endearing friends. Joanne is a person I respect, love and look up to. She is modest, ambitious and resilient.

I can confidently say that she is one of the people God has placed in my life who helped me along my journey of becoming a physician. During my most challenging circumstances, I often drew comfort knowing that I have a strong woman of faith and empathy praying and interceding on my behalf. I can recall during my years studying overseas the many phone calls of prayers, worship and marathon talks of encouragement that Joanne and I shared that inspired me to persevere. with Joanne, I was able to be myself, as she was not only trust-worthy, but she often drew on her own experiences when addressing certain fragile and complex issues. Her words of wisdom and her many acts of faith would frequently resonate in my mind during those times I needed them most, such that, although we were thousands of miles apart, her words produced enough strength and encouragement as though she was physically present with me.

Joanne's honor is in her ability to convey God's love to others through  her warm and compassionate spirit, in her many wee-hours of the morning answered prayers and in her passion for helping and better understand young people. She builds rapport so easily that it baffles me. She is a great role model, full of wisdom and has a keen desire to emotionally, and when possible, financially support those in need. I have witnessed Joanne help others (including myself), surmount hurdles, heal from wounds and exercise the type of faith that I have only otherwise known from the Bible. Her fierce determination towards self-advancement and her passion to see others mature spiritually, emotionally and psychologically have provoked my inclination not only to succeed in life but also to serve others in a manner pleasing to God and befitting my profession.

I have the pleasure of knowing Miss Joanne Haynes for over seven years. I must say that my life has been blessed and inspired in many ways by Joanne's words, testimony and the standard of her Christian Life.

In a world where many Christian young people especially young women are settling for mediocrity and shallow Christian living, her walk with God is very different. She is always pursuing excellence and very passionate about her walk with God and the things of God. She has a great love for prayer and praise and worship and is also a lover of the Word of God.

As a co-worker at the Campden Park Technical Institute, I realised that Joanne has an interest in and love for people, especially young people. She was always willing and ready to lend a listening ear, counsel or offer whatever help was needed. She took time out to share and help others who were hurting.

Her concern for the spiritual welfare of her students was always paramount and she took time out to share Christ with them as well greatly assisted in the work of the Inter School and College Christian Fellowship at the Institute. On many Monday mornings, the two of us were the main instructors who conducted the devotional sessions with the trainees during general assembly.

Shortly after knowing Joanne, I realised not just her passion for the work but her knowledge and the gift of imparting it to others. As a result, I invited her to the Apostolic Faith Summer Youth Camp at the North Union Secondary School. There she greatly inspired the youths on the topic of "How to do Inductive Bible Study" so that they can make their Bible study more interesting. I am sure that many can still remember the presentation and still apply what was done.

As a person she is very humble, polite, and easy to get along with. She understands her purpose and despite her challenges, she continues to strive to fulling it. What I admire a lot about Joanne is that she is not afraid to share about her weaknesses or failures. She uses her life's story to help encourage and motivate others.

I do believe that as she continues to persevere, she would reap the reward the Lord has for her and her life will will continue to impact many more in greater measure.

In the year 2005, I met Joanne at the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI) Extension Bible School. Early up I realised that Joanne was a unique person, one who was very courageous and a woman of profound faith and courage. During the two years at Bible School I had a glimpse of the future. Joanne and I remember my saying to her, "In ten years' time you will not recognise yourself." I saw a greatness in this small, unassuming young woman.

What drew me to Joanne was her love for God and her pursuit of Him. She helped me to realise that as a Christian young woman you cannot be laid back. It was through Joanne that I learned about Aglow International Women's conferences and I too started to attend. Her love for God showed me that in order for me to have a closer walk with God I have to move away from doing "church as usual' and to pursue God in more passionate manner.

Joanne is a woman of of high moral standards. In a society where so much Christian women compromise and make excuses as to why they choose to live contrary to God's laws, I have always known Joanne to be a woman of integrity. She has taught me that as a Christian woman living a life that is pleasing to God is possible.

The scripture that says, "In our weakness God's strength is made whole" (2 Corinthians 12:9), fits Joanne perfectly. I am amazed at how Joanne has suffered as a young woman yet her faith in God remains unmovable. Her strength gave me the courage to face my own battles knowing that I too will overcome.

In a world where people are afraid to show their true selves because of the fear of criticism and being unjustly judged by others Joanne was fearless. Upfront she was open and honest about her struggles and her pain. Nothing about her was hidden. She was totally transparent. This is one of the reasons why I admire Joanne. She never pretended. This quality helped me in such a great way. It took the pressure off and allowed me the opportunity to be myself, flaws and all.

This also helped me to overcome my own insecurities and to understand that in order for me to grow and to become a better me, I too had to be honest about my struggles. I realised that as I shed light on the dark situations in my life I was becoming free. Chains and bondage were broken off me.

Joanne is a woman of strength. Her faith in God makes this woman of God a phenomenal woman. How could someone suffer that much and emerge victorious every time? It's the power of her God Jehovah. She has had to overcome so much obstacles, so much negative emotions and yet in the end she arises and emerges as one who has never gone through the fire. It is these qualities about Joanne that helped to build my own faith in God because I look at her and I will think, if God can do it for Joanne, then He will do it for me too.

The truth is I have never met anyone like Joanne. Never! Once you have gained her trust she places you in a special place in her heart and she protects you. She never judges or condemns. She is always there to encourage you and believe with you for an excellent outcome. She is not one who pretends or deceives you in anyway. She is a woman of integrity, of courage, of strength, of excellent character, and above all, she is a woman of God. Who better to minister to God's people than this awesome woman of God?

When I reflected on how Evangelist Joanne has impacted my life I was speechless. She has impacted my life in so many ways. I believe in divine appointment and she has come into my life as a divine appointment sent by God. I remember the first time we came face to face, we had connected so well we seemed like old friends. From that time until now I continue to cherish our friendship as a sister in Christ, as well as my sister-in-law. Sometimes when I find myself in a place of discouragement, God always sends someone to encourage me and that someone is always her. Her love and support have been instruments in my life and I praise God for her.

When the Lord had called me into Ministry some years ago I remember she stood with us in Ministry by going door to door, talking with people in the neighbourhood and giving out tracks. This was a blessing to me because she was the only family standing with me, along with my sister in the Lord, doing the work of God's Kingdom.

The Lord has used Evangelist Joanne tremendously to minister an "on time word" for the Ministry, telling us that everything we seek God for will be birth in prayer, and that moment until now we have been praying and seeking for those things to happen in the Ministry and they have. From that "word" from God, Thursday night prayer was birthed. Prayer line twice per month was launched as well, and we are going strong. this was birthed because she allowed God to use her. Praise be to God who has done great things. The "word" was deposited into our spirits and we took off running. God also deposited about prayer in my spirit, to have prayer for one hour before any service and that was birthed as well.

God also used Evangelist Joanne to tell me how much He hated divorce, and because of that word God used her to deposit in my spirit I removed divorce from my vocabulary. I still do have challenges in my marriage but I am trusting god in the process. I am going to wait till my change comes.

So she has not just impacted my life but God's kingdom as well. As she continues to pray for me I will do the same as well. god bless her.

Paola

I met Joanne in 2007 when I went to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill as a foreign Language exchange teacher. Joanne was in my Spanish class, at the beginning she was just another student in my class but as we both were foreigners in Barbados, and she had been there a bit longer than I, we started spending more time together, go shopping in town and to eat carrot cake at the mall.

Joanne has become a very important person in my life, as she has been a great support through my happiest and my saddest times. A couple of months after arriving to Barbados, I got sick and I was in the hospital for almost a month. Joanne used to visit me every single day, and most of those days she was my only visitor. She used to talk to me a lot and pray with me for strength to go through that difficult time. I was dealing not only with the fact that I was physically ill, but also being far from my family and friends, and the fear of a slow recovery. I can assure that it was Joanne's prayers and support that took me through that difficult time.

Later that same year I met the love of my life, the first time I fell madly in love and I was sure that there was no bigger love after that one. We went through happy moments and difficult ones, as we had to keep a long distance relationship for a long time. At times the distance made everything very frustrating, a lot of insecurities arouse, at times I did not feel accepted by his family. It was not an easy situation. Joanne and I only got closer with the time; she became not only my best friend but my relationship counsellor. She was the person who got me into praying and having faith in the Lord, to release and let God's will be done. As time passed, he proposed and later we got married.

Every marriage has ups and downs, at times you even feel there are more downs than ups, and I believe that every person should have someone to turn to for advice in those difficult times. Unfortunately, some people do not have anyone to turn to, other times we don't get the best advice from those around us, and in times of desperation and pain, we do what others tell us to do, to realise later that it is not always the smartest thing to do.

I truly believe that I am one of the luckiest persons in the world who had the opportunity to meet Joanne, I love her and I trust her, not only because she is my dearest friend but also because she has never judged me. No matter how fool I may feel at times, she listens like no one else does. She does not tell me what to do but she guides me to find the answer in my heart and most importantly in God. After Joanne prayers for you, or with you, you feel that there is nothing else that you need to worry about, you feel that you have given all your worries to God and you do not need to carry that burden anymore.

Without Joanne's support through that time I don't think I would be here telling my story. I got divorced a couple years ago. I call it a near death experience. I was broken to pieces. I did not know who I was anymore, or what my life was going to be from that moment. when reality hit me, depression, anxiety and insecurity took over. I did not have faith anymore, the pain was so heavy that I could not see tomorrow. I was lost. I was looking in the wrong place for what I needed. Joanne kept an eye on me. She never judged me for how I was feeling or what I did. I was not listening to anyone but she always listened to me and talked to me as a friend. Only now I can say that without her love and support over the numerous Skype calls, I would not be here telling my story. I am better now and I have faith in God that things will be just fine, as they have been for the past years. In a new relationship again, not easy but giving Joanne more work to do with me.

My personal counsellor, relationship counsellor, career advisor, spiritual guide and dear friend. You have done a great job. without you in my life I wouldn't be the person I am today.
