The Antidote for Anxiety and Depression: Trust in Abba Father’s Care – Pt 29
Receive Strength from the Lord and His Mighty Power!
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
– Ephesians 6:10
As a result of my perceptions of the experiences I’ve had in my life I was often overwhelmed by negative emotions. The cognitive distortion ‘mental filtering’ became my constant companion. Thus, I tended to ignore everything that was positive and was fixated only on those things that were negative. I held such a negative perception of myself and my future that those extreme negative thoughts caused feelings of hopelessness which triggered suicidal ideation and attempts. My interpretations of circumstances always resulted from my use of a negative mental filter, which wasn’t only inaccurate but kept me going around the mountain of anxiety and depression in a vicious cycle that I was perpetually weak and tired in my total being – body, soul and spirit.
I believe that I had experienced times of relief and peace but those always lasted for a short time before I was going around the mountain of anxiety and depression again. So much so that a friend of mine would ask me every time I relapsed, “You un-deliver yourself again after God has delivered you?” Her question propelled me to desire to maintain my healing and deliverance but I seemed unable to do so.
A few months ago I began to ponder in my heart a question that a dear friend asked me one morning. It was a question for which she needed an urgent answer but also one that was very relevant to me. “What do you do when you have prayed, and believed for healing yet the symptoms persist?” As I pondered on this question I heard in my spirit, “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10).
I don’t know what your situation is or what is happening in your life at this moment that maybe causing you to be weak in your body, soul or spirit being. However, I do know a solution and that is, we must “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” as the Apostle Paul admonished in Ephesians 6:10.
The word “strong” in this verse is derived from the Greek word endunamao, a compound of the words en which means in and the word dunamis which means explosive strength, ability and power. The word “dynamite” comes from this word (Renner, 2003).
When the words en and dunamis are compounded to form the word endunamao it gives a picture of an explosive power that is being deposited into some type of container, vessel or other form of receptacle (Renner, 2003).
Hence, God fashioned you and me to be special vessels in which He deposits His supernatural power. We must be infused with strength and ability. It is God’s special touch of His strength with which we must be empowered. This inner strengthening we must receive for God has already given it. It is there for the taking so instead of asking God for strength or to strengthen us, we must receive it, and be empowered and infused with God’s supernatural strength.
If you are weak God is offering you His supernatural, explosive strength, ability and power. Would you receive it today?
MY PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father when I think about who You are and all that You’ve done for me I worship You. Thank You for creating me to be Your special vessel to house Your supernatural power. I declare today that I am infused with Your supernatural, explosive strength, ability and power which I delightfully receive each day. Therefore, I am strengthened and prepared for war against the enemy of my soul. I prayer this by faith in Jesus’ name with thanksgiving. Amen!
